LOADER OPERATOR - SAWMILL OPERATIONS
Location: Ellington, MO
Position Summary:
The Loader Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a front-end loader or forwarder to move logs, lumber, and other materials in support of daily sawmill / scragg mill operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production flow, keeping work areas organized, and ensuring materials are handled safely and correctly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate a front-end loader to load, unload, sort, and transport logs, lumber, and materials throughout the sawmill yard and production areas
- Feed logs to the mill in a timely and efficient manner to maintain steady production
- Stack, organize, and stage materials according to production needs
- Perform daily pre-operational equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately
- Maintain clear travel paths and good housekeeping in the yard and work areas
- Communicate effectively with sawyers, supervisors, and other crew members to coordinate material flow
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
- Work safely around pedestrians, equipment, and changing weather conditions
- Assist with other sawmill or yard duties as needed
Safety Responsibilities
- Operate equipment in a safe, controlled manner at all times
- Wear required PPE
- Remain alert to changing conditions, blind spots, and nearby personnel
- Immediately report hazards, near-misses, or incidents to supervision
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating a front-end loader or similar heavy equipment preferred
- Experience in a sawmill, lumber yard, or industrial environment strongly preferred
- Ability to safely handle large, uneven, or unstable loads
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify equipment issues
- Strong attention to safety and situational awareness
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment
- Ability to climb in and out of equipment multiple times per shift
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate clearly in a noisy environment

SAWYER
Location: Ellington, MO
Position Summary:
The Sawyer is responsible for operating sawmill equipment to cut logs into lumber safely, efficiently, and accurately. This position is critical to production output, lumber quality, and overall mill performance. The Sawyer must maintain consistent production while following all safety procedures and working closely with log handling and downstream operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate primary and/or secondary sawmill equipment to process logs into lumber according to production requirements
- Select cutting patterns and make sawing decisions to maximize yield, quality, and production efficiency
- Monitor log flow from the infeed system and communicate with loader and Prentice operators as needed
- Adjust machine settings, guides, and controls to maintain accurate cuts
- Monitor blade condition and performance and report blade or equipment issues promptly
- Maintain steady production while avoiding jams, misfeeds, or unsafe conditions
- Perform routine operational checks and basic adjustments during the shift
- Maintain good housekeeping around the saw station and surrounding work areas
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
Safety Responsibilities
- Operate sawmill equipment in a safe and controlled manner at all times
- Remain alert to moving machinery, pinch points, and rotating equipment
- Never bypass safety guards or interlocks
- Wear required PPE, including eye, hearing, and other protective equipment as assigned
- Immediately report hazards, near-misses, or incidents
Quality & Production Responsibilities
- Produce lumber that meets dimensional and quality standards
- Minimize waste, miscuts, and rework
- Maintain consistent feed rates to support downstream operations
- Communicate quality or production concerns to supervision
Qualifications
- Previous sawyer or sawmill experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of sawmill processes
- Ability to read measurements and make precise adjustments
- Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception
- Strong attention to detail, safety, and production goals
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Physical Requirements

STATIONARY PRENTICE LOADER OPERATOR
Location: Ellington, MO
Position Summary:
The Stationary Prentice Loader Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a stationary Prentice loader to feed logs into the sawmill / scragg mill. This position is critical to maintaining steady production flow and ensuring logs are properly positioned and presented to the mill. The operator must work closely with sawyers and other mill personnel while maintaining a high level of safety awareness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate a stationary Prentice loader to pick, sort, and feed logs into the sawmill deck or infeed system
- Select and position logs according to production needs and sawyer direction
- Maintain a consistent and efficient log flow to prevent production delays or jams
- Monitor log quality, size, and condition and communicate concerns to supervision or sawyers
- Keep the infeed area clear, organized, and free of obstructions
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections of the Prentice loader and report mechanical or safety issues immediately
- Communicate effectively with sawyers, supervisors, and other crew members to coordinate operations
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements
- Assist with general sawmill or yard duties as assigned when production allows
Safety Responsibilities
- Operate the Prentice loader in a safe, controlled manner at all times
- Maintain constant awareness of personnel working around the infeed and log deck areas
- Never swing loads over people or occupied work areas
- Wear required PPE
- Immediately report hazards, near-misses, or incidents
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating a Prentice loader or similar log-handling equipment preferred
- Sawmill or log-handling experience strongly preferred
- Ability to safely handle irregular, heavy, and shifting log loads
- Good depth perception, hand-eye coordination, and situational awareness
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify equipment or hydraulic issues
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and operate controls for extended periods
- Ability to climb in and out of the cab safely multiple times per shift
- Ability to work in a noisy industrial environment
- Ability to remain alert and focused during repetitive tasks
Work Environment

MATERIAL HANDLER

Position Summary:
Material Handlers are responsible for moving, staging, stacking, and organizing materials throughout the sawmill and production areas to support safe and efficient operations. These positions play a key role in maintaining production flow, housekeeping, and workplace safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Move, stack, sort, and stage lumber, cants, pallets, and materials as directed
- Feed and remove material from sawmill and downstream equipment as needed
- Band, strap, or secure material for storage or transport
- Maintain clear walkways, aisles, and work areas
- Assist operators by keeping material flowing and preventing backups
- Identify and report damaged material, quality issues, or safety concerns
- Use hand tools and material-handling equipment safely and properly
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions
- Assist with general cleanup and housekeeping throughout the shift
- Perform other production-related duties as assigned
Safety Responsibilities
- Work safely around moving equipment, conveyors, and forklifts
- Follow proper lifting techniques and request assistance when needed
- Wear required PPE, including eye, hearing, hand, and foot protection
- Maintain awareness of pinch points, trip hazards, and moving machinery

Qualifications

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials (up to 50 lbs., with assistance for heavier loads)

FORKLIFT OPERATOR

Position Summary:
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating a forklift to move, stack, load, and unload materials throughout the sawmill and production areas. This position supports production flow, inventory control, and safe material handling while maintaining awareness of personnel, equipment, and changing conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts to move lumber, pallets, materials, and finished products safely and efficiently
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, and material racks as required
- Stack and store materials in designated locations according to instructions
- Supply production areas with materials to prevent downtime
- Verify loads are stable, secure, and within equipment capacity limits
- Perform daily pre-operational forklift inspections and report issues immediately
- Maintain clear aisles, travel paths, and work areas
- Communicate with supervisors and coworkers to coordinate material movement
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and traffic rules
- Assist with other production or material handling duties as assigned
Safety Responsibilities

- Never exceed rated load capacities or operate unsafe equipment
