Position: School Bus Monitor
Status: Full Time

The Bus Monitor provides support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

This is a 10-month position with summers off.  WE have both, on-call and full-time Monitor openings

Hours

  • Monday through Friday
  • Split Shift, 5:30 am – 8:30/9:30 am and 1:45 pm to 5:30 pm
    • Hours may vary depending on route and inclement weather

 

Job Duties

  • Assists special education students and other passengers by providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
  • Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. restraints, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.)
  • Assists bus driver to ensure a clean, safe environment for student passengers (e.g. sweeping, mopping, washing windows, disposing of trash, etc.)
  • Enforces rules/regulations and maintains student safety and well-being.
  • Interacts with teachers and parents by effectively communicating with students and dealing with behavioral issues that impact safe transportation.
  • Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc.
  • Documents student activities, conveys information, and/or complies with established guidelines. (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.)

 

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Related job experiences desired (paraprofessional, CNA, Direct Support Professional, etc)
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate/AED preferred, or willingness to obtain
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check; DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
