Position: School Bus Mechanic III
Status: Full Time

The Mechanic III independently performs and oversees vehicle maintenance and repairs of considerable difficulty on the District’s smaller vehicles and buses. This person will examine, analyze and diagnose mechanical problems as well as implement or direct the repairs on all District vehicles.

This is a 12 month position. Mechanics are eligible for benefits as listed below.

Hours

  • Monday through Friday
  • Daytime Hours (start and end hours vary depending on weather, project deadlines, etc..)

 

Job Duties

  • Coach drivers on safe driving practices to ensure passenger safety and extend the  life of the vehicles.
  • Diagnose complex malfunctions independently and provide mechanical guidance to the Mechanics I and II.
  • Inspects assigned vehicles, buses and other district vehicles, (e.g. brake system, oil levels, coolant, tire pressure, wiper blades, fan belts, exterior and interior condition, etc.)
  • Maintains vehicle inventory, tools and equipment, and cleanliness of shop.
  • Track maintenance and repairs on all District vehicles and provide updates to leadership, as requested.
  • Serve as back-up school bus driver, as requested.

 

Requirements

  • Must have a current Missouri Driver’s License, with a clean driving record.
  • Commercial Driver’s License – Class B (CDL-B), or willingness to obtain with passenger & air brake endorsements, and Missouri School Bus Permit, or willingness to obtain. (TRAINING PROVIDED))
  • State Vehicle Inspector Certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check. (DOT physical exam, drug test, and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance)
